Our Story

About Us

A proud tradition of archery excellence since 1974

Founded in 1974, Priory Bowmen is one of the smaller archery clubs in Essex with around 30 members. Nonetheless we are remarkably successful: several of our members have shot for the County Team and one for the England Junior Team. We also won the Essex Summer League title three times in four years.

We are based near Clacton-on-Sea and are fortunate to have a private shooting range. We currently shoot on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday mornings, often going into early afternoon. We shoot outdoors all year round.

We shoot all kinds of bows but specialise in recurve and wooden bows. Please note that we cannot accommodate compound bows. We concentrate on target archery but we have a small — and very enthusiastic — band of field archers.

We run beginners' lessons by arrangement and we welcome applications to join at any time.
